2010 Summer Intensive Program Levels 5-8 June 21 – July 30, 2010 Three week option info
2010-2011 Year-round Program
Students will have the opportunity to be considered for the year-round program during the summer auditions. The summer program is an excellent opportunity to sample what it is like to live in Houston and attend classes at Houston Ballet all year long. Students are given the chance to become acclimated to our building, staff, and our close working relationship with Houston Ballet Company. Students should begin to consider whether or not they plan to audition now, prior to the summer, and consider housing, education, and transportation costs.
The artistic staff of Houston Ballet awards a limited number of merit-based scholarships per year. Students may apply for financial aid by requesting a financial aid application from the Academy Office. For first consideration, financial aid applications should be turned in with registration forms.
Continuing Education All students are required to earn a high school diploma. Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy has an Education Coordinator on staff to assist students with a student's completion of high school through the many online and correspondence programs available.
Foreign students may take English as a second language class online or by correspondence, or at colleges in the area. Houston Community College www.hccs.edu , Rice University www.esl.rice.edu , and Bilingual Education Institute www.aetas.com , are schools offering classes.
Performances Students in levels 1 through HBII will participate in a Spring Concert each year. In addition, levels 8 and HBII have several performance opportunities throughout the year, including Houston Ballet's Nutcracker, community outreach performances, an annual performance at the Jewish Community Center's annual dance month, University of Houston's Moore's School of Music, and Miller Outdoor Theater. Upper level students are also given various opportunities to understudy members of the company in Houston Ballet productions. Please refer to the Houston Ballet's season schedule for a more detailed performance schedule.
Career Planning Houston Ballet offers career planning assistance to HBII and level 8 students. Dancers are provided with up-to-date information on company hires, assistance in making audition appointments, help with resumes/vitae preparation, and professional head and body photo guidance. Workshops are held yearly for those needing assistance. Advice and guidance on alternative dance career planning and college programs is available as needed.
Should you have any questions about the year-round program, you may contact the Academy at hbacademy@houstonballet.org or call at 713-535-3210.
