In Parent and Me, the use of creativity and movement stimulates both mental and physical development as well as encourages the student to gain social skills and independence. Muscular strength, coordination, balance, memory, and use of rhythm and musicality will all be explored. The exploration of music and the use of routine make this class a bonding experience for both the child and caregiver.
JOY OF MOTION
Through developmentally appropriate creative movement, children develop coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and spatial awareness. The goal of this class is for each child to find their own pleasure through music and movement, while developing fine gross motor skills.
Creative Dance is for children 4 years of age. Creative Dance explores both the creative and physical dimensions of each child as they gain awareness of music, rhythm, and movement. Activities are designed to develop strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression. Through classroom activities, children refine motor skills and develop the creative process through the use of props and imagery.
Pre-Ballet is for children 5 years of age. This class provides a bridge between Creative Dance and the Academy's first level of ballet. Children are introduced to the structure and discipline of a ballet class, as well as music awareness and basic ballet terminology. Pre-Ballet emphasizes creative expression through movement to music.
An audition is not required to enroll in the Preschool Division. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are closed once capacity is reached.
Joy of Motion, Pre-Ballet and Creative Dance are full-year programs. Each student's skill and maturity is assessed throughout the year. Written notification of placement for the following year is sent by email at the end of the spring semester.
