Who can audition?
Students ages 7 and up are required to audition for admission into the Main School Year-Round Program, levels 1-8, and for Houston Ballet II (HBII).
We also have recreational, non-audition classes for dancers ages 4 and up. Please refer to the Pre-School, Open Class, and Adult Class Program links on the Houston Ballet website for more information.
When and where are auditions?
Year Round Auditions are held in the Houston Ballet Center for Dance building:

What should I bring?
1.) Two photos of yourself (any size): a headshot and a full body photograph of you in arabesque.
2.) A completed registration form (please fill out and print here: Audition Registration Form) ; forms will also be available for you to complete on site.
3.) Audition Fee: $30 for pre-registered students, $35 on-site. Cash or check only will be accepted the day of the audition. Students who have pre-paid online should bring a print out of their email confirmation.
What should I wear to auditions?
Women should attend auditions in a solid color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and have their pointe shoes readily available. Men should wear a solid color form fitting t-shirt, black tights, and ballet shoes.
What should I expect?
The audition class will consist of barre, center, pointe for the women, and men's work for male applicants.
When and how will I be notified of audition results?
Audition results will be emailed approximately one week after each audition, but no later than 2 weeks. Please do not call Houston Ballet's Academy as results will be conveyed by email only.
I have been accepted into the program. What should I do now?
If you are accepted into the program, directions as how to proceed will be relayed via email communication with parents and students. Registration forms can be completed electronically and payment can be returned by email, mail, or fax.
I have not been accepted into the program. Can I get feedback from the Artistic Staff?
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applicants, Houston Ballet cannot give feedback on why a student was not accepted into our Academy program. However we always encourage students to come back and re-audition in the future.
What if I am not able to attend any of the auditions listed?
Foreign students not able to attend a scheduled audition are allowed to submit a DVD audition. Please download the DVD/Video Audition Form and submit it with your audition materials. Only youtube links and DVDs will be accepted. The deadline for all DVD/Video auditions is as follows:
- For Fall 2013: August 1, 2013
- For Spring 2014: December 7, 2013
- For Houston Ballet II: March 1, 2014
- For Summer Program: February 15, 2014
- For Fall 2014: August 15, 2014
Although we welcome video auditions, we highly encourage students to try to make one of our scheduled auditions if at all possible.
