A Dance in the Garden of Mirth

HOUSTON BALLET II SHOWCASES ITS RANGE AND VERSATILITY AT PERFORMANCE ON THURSDAY, JUNE 12 AT 8:00 PM

On Thursday evening, June 12th at 8:00 pm, Houston Ballet II will showcase its extraordinary range and versatility in a performance at the Margaret Alkek Williams Dance Laboratory at Houston Ballet Center for Dance, 601 Preston Street, Houston 77002.  Tickets are $15, and may be purchased by calling 713-227-2787.

The centerpiece of the evening will be the dazzling classical showpiece Raymonda.  Also on the program are excerpts from some of Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch's most exciting works:  Fingerprints, set to the joyous "Pieces of Africa" score performed by The Kronos Quartet; and the rousing, kinetic A Dance in the Garden of Mirth, set to the music of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and designed to capture the vibrancy and joy present in the music and gatherings associated with that time period.

Houston Ballet II is Houston Ballet's second company, featuring exciting young dancers from around the globe launching their careers.  They've performed on stages in Australia, Guatemala, Hungary, and Mexico, and have been honored at the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland.  It's hard to believe that they are students. Yet they train at Houston Ballet Academy, and over the last year, they have danced all across America and in Canada as well.

This performance is dedicated to the memory of Gailene Stock, an Australian dancer and teacher who was much admired for her leadership of London's Royal Ballet School from 1999 to 2014.
