Her first principal role with Houston Ballet in the role of Lise in La Fille Mal Gardee
Lauren Strongin was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she started dancing at the age of 3. At 11, she was offered a full scholarship to attend The Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC. In 1999, she was awarded a full scholarship to the John Cranko-Schule in Stuttgart, Germany. In 2001, she competed in the Prix de Lausanne International Ballet Competition in Switzerland where she was a finalist and a cash prizewinner.
The following year, Ms. Strongin joined the Sarasota Ballet of Florida and quickly was promoted to Principal dancer. Her principal roles include the Young Girl in Ashton's The Two Pigeons, Polka girl and Tango couple in Ashton's Façade, Bethena Waltz in Macmillan's Elite Syncopations, the young sister in Macmillan's Las Hermanas, Van Manen's Grosse Fuge, Cranko's Pineapple Poll, Black Queen in Dame Nanette De Valois' Checkmate, Betrayed Girl in De Valois' The Rake's Progress, Matthew Bourne's The Infernal Galop, Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, Divertimento No. 15 and Concerto Barocco, Caroline in Tudor's Lilac Garden, Prokovsky's Vespri and the title role in his Anna Karenina. Her classical repertoire includes principal roles in Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Les Sylphides, and Paquita,. She has also danced the principal roles in Giselle, Coppélia, The Nutcracker, and Le Corsair partnered by American Ballet Theatre's principal dancer José Manuel Carreño. In 2006, Ms. Strongin was a Finalist at the USA International Ballet Competition at Jackson, Mississippi.
In 2009, Ms. Strongin joined the Houston Ballet. Her repertoire has expanded to include Principal roles in Sir Frederick Ashton's La Fille Mal Gardee, Terpsichore in Balanchine's Apollo, Soloist in Balanchine's Theme and Variations, Emeralds, and Ballet Imperial, August Bournonville's, Flower Festival in Genzano staged by Johnny Eliasen, Bianca in John Cranko's The Taming of the Shrew, Karen in William Forsythe's In the middle, somewhat elevated, Principal roles in Stanton Welch's Tutu, Falling, Divergence, Nosotros, Madame Butterfly, Maninias, and Clear. Manon in Sir Kenneth Macmillian's Manon, Jiří Kylián's Falling Angels, Sinfonetta, and Petite Mort, Pas couple in Mark Morris' Sandpaper Ballet and Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes, Christopher Wheeldon's Rush, Twyla Tharp's The Brahms-Hayden Variations, Sugarplum Fairy, Snow Queen and Lead Flower in Ben Stevenson's The Nutcracker, Ben Stevenson's Twilight pas de duex. Ms. Strongin has created roles in Aszure Barton's Angular Momentum, Jorma Elo's ONE/end/ONE, Nicolo Fonte's See(k), James Kudelka's Passion, Edwaard Liang's Murmuration, Garrett Smith's Vivacious Dispositions, Stanton Welch's Sons de l'âme and The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.
