William Newton was born in Johnstown, Ohio, and received his training at New Albany Ballet Company and Houston Ballet Academy. Newton joined Houston Ballet in 2009 and has performed feature roles in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments (Plegmatic); Stanton Welch’s Swan Lake (Rothbart); Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort, Sinfonietta; Twyla Tharp’s The Brahms-Haydn Variations (Principal Couples); John Cranko’s The Taming of the Shrew (Hortensio); Trey McIntyre’s Peter Pan (Merman).
His repertoire also includes: George Balanchine’s Ballet Imperial (Pas de Trois), Theme and Variations; Stanton Welch’s La Bayadère (Royal Guard and Buddha), Madame Butterfly, Indigo, Marie (Prince Rohan), Pecos Bill (Widowmaker), Of Blessed Memory, The Rite of Spring, Swan Lake (Rothbart, Russian and Hungarian Guard, Rothbart’s Guard), Tapestry, Divergence, Tu Tu; John Cranko The Taming of the Shrew; Twyla Tharp’s The Brahms-Haydn Variations; Trey McIntyre’s Peter Pan; Ronald Hynd’s The Merry Widow; Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker (Spanish, Fat Father, Father, Harlequin, Nutcracker, King Rat, Male Flower, Arabian, Mirliton Man), The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet; David Bintley’s Aladdin(Gold), Jiří Kylián’s Forgotten Land; Jerome Robbins’s The Concert; and Sir Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs, La fille mal gardee.
