Houston Ballet's Lynne Charles, Ballet Mistress

Lynne Charles, BALLET MISTRESS

Lynne Charles enjoyed an impressive career that spanned more than 30 years. Ms. Charles performed as a principal dancer with Hamburg Ballet, Bejart Ballet, Ballet Roland Petit, English National Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet from 1975 to 1991. Ms. Charles received the "Berliner Best Artist of the Year Award" as well as the Bronze medal in Varna for the USA in 1976. John Neumeier created many of his most famous ballets for her, including Sleeping Beauty, Arthur's Legend, Petruschka, Age of Anxiety, As You Like It and more.  Neumeier also brought Galina Ulanova to coach Ms. Charles in Giselle. To date she is the only non-Russian dancer to have had this honor. As well performing, Ms. Charles has choreographed ballets for Malmo Ballet Sweden, Finish National Ballet, Aalto Ballet Germany, Aoyama Theater Japan and has been a guest teacher with many prominent companies throughout the world, including Royal Danish Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet and San Francisco Ballet.
