MAYOR ANNISE PARKER AND HUNDREDS OF HOUSTON CHILDREN KICK OFF HOLIDAY SEASON AT 25th ANNUAL WORTHAM THEATER CENTER TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and the City of Houston unite to celebrate most wonderful time of the year
HOUSTON - On Wednesday, November 21 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, the holiday season will officially begin as hundreds of Houston children celebrate at the 25th annual Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting Ceremony - a joyous festival held in the Grand Foyer of Wortham Theater Center downtown. This event is FREE and open to the public.
The highlight of the event will take place when Houston Ballet Amy Fote as the Sugar Plum Fairy lights the theater's 25-foot Christmas tree, illuminated with 8,000 sparkling lights. Mayor Annise Parker will be the distinguished speaker for the event. KUHF's Elaine Kennedy will host the event.
Other festivities include visits by characters from The Nutcracker and live holiday music by local bands and choirs. Houston Grand Opera's HGOco and the Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir will provide lively entertainment. Delicious eats and drinks will also be available, as well as the chance for children to have their picture taken with Santa Claus!
The 2012 Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting Ceremony is generously sponsored by KUHF 88.7 FM Houston Public Radio, Houston First Corporation, Houston Grand Opera, and Houston Ballet.
Houston Ballet's 25th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony celebrates the opening of The Nutcracker. Performances run November 23 - December 30, 2012 at Wortham Theater Center.
