Houston Ballet chance to dance

Seeks talent in diverse communities in order to best represent Houston's people, make dance accessible, enhance children's educational experience by connecting movement with learning and introduce children to the art form of dance.

Program Description

During the Spring semester, students from diverse commnunities are invited to participate in six classes held at Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy.  Houston Ballet provides transportation to and from the school free of charge.  Classes are all-inclusive with students actively participating, regardless of physical ability or previous dance experience.  Academy staff, however, does assess students for Houston Ballet Academy's year-round program.  Scholarships and dance wear are offered along with transportation, if needed.  Students are re-evaluated on a year to year basis for scholarship renewal.

Eligibility

Schools with at-risk children, inner-city schools and low income schools without dance programs in place are eligible for this program. The program is offered to a limited number of schools.
